Abstract/Summary:

Can Do! is a project, in which inhabitants themselves organise community-based activities for their neighbourhood to improve social cohesion.

Target Group:

Inhabitants of an deprived neighbourhood.

Rationale/Background:

Within 15 month the inhabitants organise 12 community-based activities. They are doing it themselves, stimulated and coached by a neighbourhood coach.

Objectives:

To improve social cohesion. To discover, that the strength of a community is in its own inhabitants. You can do it yourself!

Informal Learning Activities:

It is learning by doing.

Evaluation:

During the process the neighbourhood coach observes, there is an evaluation interview.

Results:

It was a wonderful party for the whole community, new and old inhabitants, young and old . About 120 people. Next year they want to organise it again.

The organiser discovered her opportunities. She is so motivated, that she stimulates others to ask Can Do! for help organizing other activities.
